CAP is aimed at improving the quality of lives of slum dwellers in Agra by better access to sanitation services (solid waste disposal, waste water drainage with decentralized systems for treatment, toilets and health and hygiene behaviour) and sustainable livelihoods linked to tourism. Initiated in August 2005, the project is designed around a trail of lesser known monuments linked together called the Mughal Heritage Walk, and five low income settlements in the area. CURE has mobilized and organized communities for inclusive planning, into sanitation and livelihood groups. Micro enterprise based livelihood initiatives have been set up with participation of the private sector – the Tourism Guild and have enabled women to attain threshold level incomes.
