Initiated by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the project had dual objectives of tracking process of household waste segregation and creating a database to enable MCD to prepare waste disposal plans on a citywide basis. The project looked at development of an effective system of household waste segregation and collection on a pilot basis in partnership with people. The project was implemented at three sites with different socio-economic characteristics. In the project, existing systems for waste collection, selling, etc., were not disturbed and were brought under project umbrella.
